A Waynesboro man who is accused of shooting into the Dixie Electric office in Waynesboro then turning his weapon on officers on Sunday afternoon was taken into custody, according to reports.

Richard K. Ross, 43, was charged with shooting into a non-dwelling and simple assault on police officers after being handcuffed and loaded into an ambulance to be checked out at Wayne General Hospital before being booked into the jail. He reportedly suffered a bite from a Waynesboro K9 officer in the process of being apprehended, The Wayne County News reported.

Police were called to the Dixie Electric office on Court Street just after 1:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired. When officers from the Waynesboro Police Department and deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded, the man reportedly pointed the gun at them, and K9 Jagger was released and took him down.

Glass in the front of the building was shattered and investigators reported finding multiple shell casings, but no one other than Ross was injured, according to reports.

Dixie Electric spokeswoman Amanda Mills expressed “sincere gratitude that no employees, local citizens or law enforcement were harmed” in the incident.

No other information was available.
